We Are Strangers Brief

What is sustainability?

Maintaining at a certain rate to the use of materials and natural resources in check to keep ecological balance so it wont affect the worlds environment, other species and us human beings.

What is climate change, what do I know about it, is it real?

Yes I believe climate change is real and think people who don’t believe it to be a serious issues are simple minded. Pretty sure climate change is when the world’s environment adjust’s in weather, sea, the atmosphere in particular due high levels of carbon dioxide produced by fossil fuels starting mid to late 20th century onwards and many other things that affects the earth most definitely. I know that climate change should have more focus on not just by the government but everyone should chip in because less the world will deteriorate at a faster speed.

What do I know about plastic pollution e.g why is it so harmful, how dose it take for plastic to decompose?

Plastic pollution is the dumping of plastic materials almost 40% by public dumps so your everyday person. This is harmful due to it effecting majority of sea life, plankton being effected the most which is very damaging towards the atmosphere because plankton makes carbon dioxide into oxygen. Plastic takes hundreds of year to decompose for bottles and fishing rods Ect. in fact no one actually knows how long plastic will remain in the ocean due to over time plastic decomposition breaks into smaller pieces.

What things can we all individually do to help the environment?

To stop plastic bottles being thrown away everyone should either recycle or invest in a steel or some sort of long lasting canteen/flask also if everybody tided up after them selfs more we’d deduce the amount of public pollution.

How can photography can help bring about change?

Photography is an visible warning or notice, I feel photographers do these certain pieces of artwork to adjust opinions and invoke more people to come together helping find an better solution to our damaged environment.

Influenced Photographers

I’ll be using Trevor Ashby and Gregg Segal as my main inspiration for the project. I firstly picked Trevor due me finding his work astonishing to look at and was immediately drawn to the use of black & white combining with the topic of plastic pollution. For the second influence I found it hard to chose but ended up with Gregg because an idea came into head as soon as I saw his Detritus Project of a man covered in trash.

Task 1-3

  1. I am going to a visit a beach most likely in Cornwall then search any type of naturally left trash and garbage but plastic as well, just whatever I can find basically. I’ll edit this one in black & white so it’ll complete that Trevor Ashby look.

2. For the locution I’ve chose a great woodland area I’ve always liked near Gunnislake which I have visited once or twice. I will be using a glass orb which i’ve been experimenting with since Christmas as I got it as a present. The glass orb will be used in all shoots just to see how they turn out but it’ll will most likely only be use in image 2. I want this idea to have a environmental positive out look to the viewer.

3. The third idea I’ll be experimenting with plastic objects such as bottles, bags also tin cans because I have large range of things I have collected over the last few months and years. I’ll try to find more plastic, tin, and other things that are considered as thrown away garbage. Then I will cover an model or multiple models in different suits of trash like Gregg Sagle’s project Detritus.

equipment: tripod, glass orb
