Formal Elements

Texture

Surface quality of an object done so well it gives a sense of how it feels through touch.

The fur on this models dress gives the viewer an idea of how it feels which it what the photographer Herb Ritts wants. I think this uses the technique of texture really well.

lines

Important to the improvement of composition in two ways, first they serve to create a mood and then to draw the viewers eyes through a certain point of the image.

For example this photographic draws your eyes to the women walking towards the camera in the corner of the surrounding because the brick wall is shot in a good angle from where she is froze in the picture, looks as if the lines are passing her by.

Space

This can be adjusted to create negative or positive really depending on how you’d decide the use of models and which emotion you would want to capture.

Seems that the fact the little girl is looking into the light from inside a tunnel with a curious posture in reasonable amount of space, gives a positive sense because its metaphor to her beginning a long and perhaps joyful life. Now on the other hand the photo of want I assume is a elderly gentleman seems to be more dark due to his structure being every straight and serious like he is also thinking about whats to come of his life but in a different way to the first image.

Angle of view: birds eye and worms eye

birds eye view is when the camera is above looking down to a surrounding area good for landscapes and high structured buildings, where worms eye view on the other hand is at ground level around shoe height can be pointed in many directions upwards straight forwards great for lots of different captures such as angles where it goes up trees, buildings.

Lighting studio and photoshop evaluation

Lighting studio evaluation

imageBeginning of the day we were told that we’d be split into two groups this lesson, one group experimented with the effects of using light in the studio with a black or white background using the LEDGO which is light, reflectors, tripod and a white back setting. The other group stayed in the classroom for a Photoshop induction. When first using the equipment with a group of three which we were all put in too for the portraits that was taken, a teacher told our group about a good way of how the reflectors can be used. So then we as a group worked on different lighting techniques, composition. Health and safety wasn’t much of a problem, all hazards such as the lights been turned off and on was covered by the observation from a teacher. Then uploaded the pictures to bridge in a contact sheet.

A good way of practice with lighting is try out a website called http://www.lightingdiagrams.com. there is my example

photoshop

Resolution is about how much detail is held in a photo, involves all important methods to make the quietly in a image as good as manageable, input and output of the many various ways. No. of pixels is very controversial to the standard of a photo you may be editing in photoshop, depending on amount of megabytes or other wise know as gigabytes will determine how high or low the quietly of the image is, 1 MB has 1024 kilobytes but this would be too low is pixels which make the image useless in standard of quietly. The lowest measure of megabytes with smallest amount of pixels and nice enough quietly is 1024 MB. ISO is an setting button on any camera which controls the sensitivity to light, if iso is increased the pixelation increasing also. There are four files types when printing and saving work JPEG, RAW, TIFF and PSD but in some cases when using photoshop it may alter the one needed because if a photographer wanted the highest quality or if the image was unconperimsed they’d use TIFF or PSD

Martin Parr

An British documentary photographer, photojournalist and photo book collector also has done acting and directing in the past, doing several guest actor appearances for the BBC and was nominated for best director for his production of Hamlet at the Off West End Awards in 2013. Martin Parr’s photographic work is described as anthropological which is the study of human beings and there behaviour also societies in the past and present. He also brings a satire look to some of the individuals in his work, shaming them with sarcasm and irony.

The use of colours in this portrait is every interesting, feel that the fact most of the background is brown and the man looking directly into lenses is wearing a suit of blue makes him stand out even more. He looks like he is in a pretty confined small space but has a clam relaxed yet serious face as if he is placed in that particular place for a responsible reason. The person the image is also stood right in the middle of the shot and looks like the photographer Martin Parr has pointed the camera purposely so he can see the man between the glass widow gap of the wooden door. This image was taken at oxford university.

This one was taken in Scotland where I reckon is outside of a pub where a man seems to be drunk on the floor, this brings out more of Parr’s satirical side because by taking a shot of this person it is ridiculing him with the impact he brings to his community and the image he presents to society. My idea is that Martin wants certain things to change through out the world and that is what he is constantly trying to capture in photography and film. Screen Shot 2018-10-08 at 13.35.43

Rights and responsibilities in street photography

Rights

When taking pictures in public areas you have to include the surrounding of others. It is not necessarily illegal to take somebody’s photo without their permission, you are well within your rights but for safety its good idea to let the individual know there image has been taken because it could be an invasion of privacy to the person. Stay quite far from the people your photographing well at least not to close because it can be in the way of their personal space and if don’t take picture of peoples children unless you have consent from the gardened’s.

Responsibilities

Certain places are completely off limits too photography due to different reasons such as privative land owners that may not want student on there property. Places like police stations, military bases and some shopping markets for instance drakes circus because of the terrorism act 2000 which is obviously to prevent security hazard’s this also includes schools/nursery any type of playgrounds for and avoid play areas in parks.

Beginning The Course

Day 1

First we had to make are ID cards for the land yards around palace court, then we had a induction of the lairbay which was fun because of the activity we all did to get a good feel of the area. Then we went on to do tour of different parts of tavistock place due to the fact of the get know what areas we could experiment or expand in. we all walked to the hoe closer to the end of the day to recreate where the beatle’s sat and also just too shoot anything that catch any of are eyes.

Day 2

This day the class went for shoot at drakes place, all of us was using wide angle lenses and told to take pictures in manual, did this to get an understanding of shutter speed, aperture which about the depth of field and iso.

Day 3

We did a scavenger hunt to find 16 different objects of odd stuff like Jabba Binks and normal things which was given to us on paper. we started round 12 and came back for 2:30, did a talk before that in the morning about what the day would be inroling and how we should act as we were representing the college at the same time when being outside also talked about what to expect from the teacher as us being the students and what us as students to expect from the teachers general respect, no phones all the time or anything illegal on college presents ect. I enjoyed this task the most from the week because it made us work and think more creatively.     000_4973

Day 4

We where just doing evaluation’s today about the last three days and how we all feel now that we are settling into the course. I personally feel that this was a great induction, it has brighten up my ideas which excites me for what sort of pictures i have an big interested in creating when i get the chance and know that i’ll get a tremendous amount of amazing support, direction and inspiration from the teachers due to how much experience all of the photography stuff has in the subject and i can’t wait to get started.
